  • A short and easy hike to Big Springs.

From Borrego Springs on the Montezuma Highway (S22), just past mp 11.5 (and before 11) , there is a larger parking to the right. (North).

Cross the road and head South, that's away from the road.
You should immediately be able to pick up a faint trail.

A real flowerbed in February 2011

The trail leads over a small saddle (after about 400 yards). Go downhill and follow the small sandy wash.
After about 200 Yards a faint trail leads up the saddle, a bit to the right.
Over the saddle, the spring is down, to the right.
You can clearly see the green vegetation.

There may be some cairns, marking the trail to the spring.
At the spring, you need to be more Borrego size to follow the trail to the water. The water flowed in a couple of pools in February 2011.

This is also close to the spot we did spot a Borrego herd in 2010.
We saw them on the Glorietta hike.
