  • Nice trail of the beaten track.

Take Hwy 179 towards Phoenix. After the village of Oak Creek take the 78 on the right. Follow the 78 for 0.7 Mile and turn right on a dirt road with a cattle guard. (If you hit an asphalt road with a cattle guard you've gone too far)
This is a high clearance road and it depends on road conditions how far you can make it in a regular car.
Starting the trail on the trail head on the other side, in the village of Oak Creek, you can make it in all cars. (no parking)
But suggested entry is the most scenic, a nice road to hike or drive on.

Follow the "gas pipeline markers" up to the parking. (keep left) Park 100 yards before the tank, as the dam or the tank is clearly visible. The last part of the road is more difficult to drive.

The official trail head is on the left over the dam of the tank. But take the alternative trail (more faint) along the tank, keeping the tank on your left. Keep on the right side of the small canyon.
After 600 Yards meet the official trail as it crosses the dry creek. At this point go right, keep an eye on the "gas pipe" markers as the trail follows these markers more or less to the end.
At the top of the saddle, there is a nice view of the village of Oak Creek and the red rocks. The path descends to the trail head, on the edge of the urbanization. (That is in April 2009, as they are building rapidly)

The tank on the trail head is mostly dry.
There is no shade on the trail.
The road is dirt and may be muddy, just after rain.
